This short sample was written as part of the Netflix “New Voices” Script contest. We were given an assignment to write 5 pages where two characters from a Netflix show are traveling when their car breaks down. I chose Geralt and Jaskier from the Witcher and changed the car to a cart. When their cart gets stuck in a swamp the men soon learn that they are not alone in the bog. It was only after registering and writing the assignment that I realized this was a contest for writers living in the Netherlands only. Instead of letting this sit on my hard drive i decided to post it here and still submit to the contest knowing fully I’m not eligible to win. Regardless here is a cold opening for a spec episode of The Witcher titled Kikimores and Queens.

Manny, a nostalgic lifeguard fights to save his endless summer lifestyle when his best friend begins a new chapter in hers
Alayna and Manny, 2 late 20 somethings have been best friends forever. They seem to live a never-ending summer in the vacation capital of the world. However for more than just them the realities of making a living in tourism can sometimes be far from a pleasant day at the beach. Look past their twitter and instagram feeds and we’ll begin to find real encounters with racial inequality, class divides, and the effects of chasing nostalgia at the expense of moving on.
